The country's current NDC reduction target is to reduce carbon emissions to 536 MtCO2e by 2030 [1].

However, this goal is considered very insufficient🤦‍♂️. This is because if each country's climate target falls short like Korea's, it is expected that the global temperature will rise😵 by 3-4°C, twice the Paris Agreement target[2].

Also, since the NDC set in 2020 is virtually the same as the 2016 goal, it violates the ‘principle of progress[3]’, which states that the new goal must be higher than the previous one.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has stated that in order to achieve net zero by 2050, a reduction of at least 45% compared to 2010 by 2030📉 [4], and in order to meet the Paris Agreement of 1.5°C, Korea needs to reduce 291 MtCO2e The recommendation that the reduction goal should be raised to the level 📑 came out last year.

Nevertheless, Korea has continued to increase greenhouse gas emissions until recently.😨💢 The NDC reduction target requested by civil society🗣 is a 50% reduction compared to 2010 by 2030‼️
